Who is Yasmin Kanaan?

I’m an Arab-Portuguese writer and creator currently living in Dubai. I’ve been passionate about storytelling from a young age and believe stories are what bring people together.

I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2023 with an MA in English Literature and History, for which I was awarded first-class honours.

Mission

Even though I’m from Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon AND Portugal, I’ve only lived in Dubai and Edinburgh. Having never truly belonged anywhere, I developed an insatiable curiosity for learning. My triple-threat, magic potion cure has been to:

  • Travel and explore new places.

  • Throw myself into the arts and humanities.

  • Converse with different people from all cultures and backgrounds.

I realised I could use my experience to connect, educate and help others. I created my brand @wheredidyasmingo so that my readers and viewers can join me on journeys across real and imaginary worlds. I hope that they can find some comfort and community in words.

I present the question ‘Where Did Yasmin Go?’ for two reasons:

  1. I’m always on the move (mind and body), so this is one way to tackle my recurring disappearing act. If you think you know where I am, you’re probably too late.

  2. To get my audience to reflect on their lives and ask themselves where they are going, who they are meeting, and what they would like to learn next.
